REVIVAL
Sapphire Annual Gala: Mar 2021
This March 30 at 7 pm at Gyan Manch, Sapphire returned to the physical stage with more than 50 dancers. It was truly a revival of their spirit, their freedom and their true artistic being to be in touch with a real audience for the occasion of the Sapphire Annual Gala which got cancelled last year as the world shut down.
Through the last many months Sapphire dancers and teachers under the guidance of Sudarshan Chakravorty have untiringly continued with their training process, creating new work and presenting to online audiences. Now they were keen to return to the stage with an inspiring vengeance to continue their journey as artists in connection to a physical stage and live audience and so the REVIVAL Concert!
The evening also marked the 40th edition of the Sapphire Quarterly Arts Series and brought together artists, art lovers, connoisseurs and media in one space of joyful creativity. From a Gyan Manch foyer display of moments and milestones from this 10 year journey to an evening of performance delights.
We have curated this evening keeping in mind the hard times we have had in the last year and continue to have in most parts of the world. Also underlining the fact that our surroundings socially, politically and environmentally are on the edge of disaster. While humanity revives itself we need to find those wounds and heal them with love, care and tolerance.
The Academy section Playgroup and Juniors have put together with their teachers two pieces.
Kitesong and The Hand that Feeds by Bijoy Sharma. Kitesong reconnects us back to Kalabharati, Montreal and the Dance & the Child Project led by Dr Mamata Niyogi Nakra. Face Off by Pintu Das. Anila by Sylvester Mardi.
