How do you respond to the geometry of something that you’ve known almost as second skin and yet wish to approach with a vocabulary that’s distinct? How do you resolve the creative tension of deep faith and love towards the age-old idiom with a practice you’ve created to actually mark a departure? How do you invoke the body metaphor by mapping them onto the synergy of seasons, of myriad moodsongs set to allegros and minuets, to classic and the baroque, a music of abandon, joy and destruction? Of regrowth and rejuvenation.

Set to Dr Partha Ghose’s symphonic interpretations this new language of dance sets Tagore free to a realm of non-language – that which holds form and is simultaneously languid and formless in an eternal state of fluid existence, movement and being. Each season is interspersed with poems from Geetanjali or song offerings, Tagore’s eternal text.

Premiered in 2005, Rituranga was presented in several art festivals and forums in USA, Singapore, Bangladesh and India. This is the production’s latest interpretation.
